Grand Canyon
April 23, 2007

One of the first National Parks in the U.S. the Grand Canyon is an awe inspiring work of nature that is to this day still a work in progress. The canyon which has been carved out by the Colorado River can be found in the state of Arizona is more than 250 miles long and more than a mile and a half wide.
The Grand Canyon was unknown until some time around the civil war when John Wesley Powell (a war veteran) first explored the great canyon via the Colorado river. Powell had always been interested in adventure and the great outdoors and made this expedition with nine other men.
Prior the Canyon was home to many native American Indians who carved their homes out of the Canyon walls.
Today the Grand Canyon is a major summer get away for many families and is an important tourist destination for Arizona.
