April 14, 2007
Tele-medicine and online learning centers are the foundation for a higher education and improved health care in rural America, said Thomas C. Dorr (Undersecretary For Rural Development). Dorr went on to say that these types of educational programs will offer a fantastic opportunity to those that live in rural America and will further extend medicine as well.
Over the last five years the USDA has invested over $150 million dollars in these types of learning programs. The administration will continue to support both this new booming industry as well as rural America in the coming years.
The government has made $15 million dollars available for those interested in distance learning and telemedicine, applications for the grants must be received by June 8, 2007.
